The quota of 1,200 applications for Canadian investor visa applicants from China is almost full for the current cycle which closes at the end of January 2016. There are still some places available among the quota of 550 applications for non-Chinese applicants.
The Canadian authorities noted that there were 4,356 in inventory as of 30 June 2015 under the $800,000 investment program and 440 files under the $400,000 CAD investment program. In 2013, 4,982 Canadian investor visa files were processed. In 2014, that number increased to 5,913.
Given these statistics we expect the inventory of 4,796 files to be cleared by June 2016.
Plans for 2016
The number of Canadian investor visas to be issued in 2016 is expected to be between 5,500 and 6,000.
Canadian Investor Visa Requirements
A Canadian investor visa is much sought after as it provides a much lower investment amount that other competitors such as the United Kingdom (£2,000,000, £5,000,000 or £10,000,000), New Zealand ($1,500,000 NZ) and Australia ($5,000,000 AUS). Canadian investor visa applicants must invest$800,000 CAD (£390,000) for a period of five years.
Successful Canadian investor visa applicants and their accompanying family members (spouse and children) will be granted permanent residence straight off the bat. This means domestic tuition rates for their children as well as complete access to Canada’s world class healthcare system.
In contrast, applicants for a UK investor visa not only have to invest at least seven times more than Canadian investor visa applicants, they will also only be granted an initial three-year temporary residence visa if they invest £2,000,000. Applicants who invest £5,000,000 or £10,000,000 have a quicker can apply for permanent residence after 3 years and 2 years respectively.
A UK investor visa will only be extended if certain conditions are fulfilled. Therefore, the path to permanent residence is conditional and can take between two and six years depending on how much you invest.
