Crown Minerals (Permitting and Crown Land) Bill Type of Bill: Government Member in Charge: Hon Phil Heatley This omnibus Bill would amend Crown Minerals Act 1991, the Conservation Act 1987, the Continental Shelf Act 1964, the Reserves Act 1977, and the Wildlife Act 1953. Its purpose is to promote prospecting for, exploration for, and mining of Crown owned minerals in New Zealand.

The Bill introduces a two tiered system for permit management, to distinguish between the relatively small number of complex, higher-return petroleum and mineral activities (Tier 1 activities) and the larger number of lower-return industrial, small business, and hobby mineral operations (Tier 2 activities).

Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Bill Type of Bill: Member's Member in Charge: Charles Chauvel This Bill would reenact a ban on the thermal generation of electricity (with certain exceptions) for 10 years. The ban was enacted by the previous Labour-led Government in 2008, but was then repealed by the new National-led Government.

Parole Amendment Bill Type of Bill: Government Member in Charge: Hon Judith Collins This Bill would amend the Parole Act 2002 to implement the Government's Post-Election Action Plan to reduce the number of unnecessary parole hearings where the offender has little prospect of release.

Public Safety (Public Protection Orders) Bill Type of Bill: Government Member in Charge: Hon Judith Collins

This Bill would empower the High Court to issue a public protection order to detain a person in a secure facility, when, at the end of a finite prison sentence or subject to the most intensive form of an extended supervision order, they pose a very high risk of imminent and serious sexual or violent reoffending.
