The Commercial Court and the Chancery Division in July set a new precedent by holding a joint case management conference (CMC) in the complex and many-faceted dispute between a series of Russian oligarchs, including Boris Berezovsky and Roman Abramovich. Gloster J and Mann J sat together in order to case manage three sets of proceedings in the Chancery Division together with an action in the Commercial Court. Identifying certain areas of overlap, they agreed that certain aspects of the dispute should be heard together. With Chancery judges soon joining the Commercial Court and the TCC in the new Rolls Building, this adds further fuel to the debate over whether a unifi ed “business court” is in the offi ng.
