The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that the required submission of liability insurance initial claim reports has been changed from the first calendar quarter of 2011 to the first calendar quarter of 2012 for liability insurance TPOC amounts. TPOC stands for "Total Payment Obligation to the Claimant" and refers to the dollar amount of a settlement, judgment, award, or other payment in addition to/apart from the Responsible Reporting Entity's ongoing responsibility for the injured party's medical records. Liability insurance TPOCs must be reported if the TPOC Date is on or after 10/1/2011.
CMS also announced a one calendar year extension of current dollar reporting thresholds for liability insurance and workers' compensation. Both announcements can be found here.
