A June 9 op-ed in IoT For All, an online technology journal covering the Internet of Things, opined that the ultimate solution to food-safety issues in the United States will be technology-based. It pointed out that the source of a still ongoing outbreak of Salmonella in eggs took weeks to ascertain using current methods. Such outbreaks, the op-ed says, should be seen as "a call to action for better Food Safety Practices, and we are quickly seeing the solution for these issues in the world of IoT." The article notes that technologies already exist to track products and oversee risk points throughout the food supply chain, "making any problems like the recent outbreaks more traceable." The op-ed predicts that the use of IoT in food processing will soon no longer be novel but will become mandatory.
