The Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Magirus EID, the Infrastructure business of the German Magirus Group, by Avnet Inc of the US. After examining the operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.

Avnet is a distributor of electronic components, computer products and technology services based in the US and operating worldwide. Through its Electronics Marketing ("EM") division, Avnet distributes a wide range of electronic components such as semiconductors and interconnect devices. Through its Technology Solutions ("TS") division, Avnet supplies technology products and services.

Magirus EID is the infrastructure division which distributes products of the Magirus Group, such as servers, storage systems and middleware products.

The Commission's examination of the proposed transaction showed that the horizontal overlaps in the distribution activities of Avnet and Magirus EID are limited and that, for all products concerned, the combined firm would continue to face several effective competitors with significant market shares and so maintain choice for consumers.
