A survey conducted recently into the views of investor relations officers of a large number of companies across Europe by international corporate communications consultancy firm, Citigate Dewe Rogerson, revealed some interesting perspectives on corporate governance.

A significant portion of respondents (55%) were of the opinion that a lack of engagement from shareholders was proving to be a key barrier to effective corporate governance.  The same survey published in April of last year revealed that 41% held this view, so the number would appear to be increasing.  This year, only 44% of respondents had confidence in the effectiveness of the rules and frameworks promoting corporate governance, whereas last year 30% felt that unnecessary regulation was a barrier to effective corporate governance.
