A report has suggested that unscrupulous employers are using the recession, and the resulting need for redundancies, as an excuse to reduce their disabled workforce. It is also suggested that fewer disabled people are being hired, as they are competing with a greater number of able-bodied people for the few jobs available.

The report warns that with a reduction in public service also being seen, that disabled people are likely to be hit twice as hard; firstly in their opportunities in the workforce and secondly in their standard of living.
