On October 17, 2012, the FCC approved and released FCC 12-130, an order to enable the use of 30 megahertz of wireless communications service (WCS) spectrum for wireless broadband services while protecting satellite radio operators from interference. The FCC stated in a news release that the rules “are consistent with a compromise proposal” filed by AT&T, Inc., and Sirius XM earlier this year. In approving the order, Commissioners expressed optimism that the item would finally clear the way for wireless broadband use of the 2.3 gigahertz WCS band. The order is available here.
