A joint presidential practice direction means that, for discrimination claims presented on or after 11 September 2017, the vento bands which determine how much injury to feelings compensation a claimant receives, have been increased and shall be as follows:
- lower band of £800 to £8,400 (less serious cases)
- middle band of £8,400 to £25,200 (cases that do not merit an award in the upper band)
- upper band of £25,200 to £42,000 (the most serious cases)
- only the most exceptional cases capable of exceeding £42,000
These increase compensation bands take account of inflation and the need to apply a 10% uplift.
