The European Steel Technology Platform announced the beginning of the second stage of its Ultra Low CO2 Steelmaking(ULCOS) research program. The second stage of the ULCOS program will use a number of large-scale pilot projects to test low carbon technologies, including carbon capture and storage. The first technology to be looked at it will be the blast furnace technology with top gas recycling and CCS. The hope is that the research of this technology will allow for a major CCS system to be launched that will cut into CO2 emissions significantly.
