There are many parties involved in a construction project, from general contractors to subcontractors to suppliers and designers. The legal rights, obligations and remedies can be as complicated as the project itself. Joe Kovars, co-chair of Ober|Kaler's Construction Group, recorded this two-part podcast, which was produced by the Maryland Construction Network and is geared to help both attorneys and non-attorneys understand the universe of subcontracting issues.

Part 1 - Listen now

  • Key subcontract terms and standard forms
  • Retention
  • Flow down clauses
  • Indemnification clauses

Part 2 coming soon

  • Lien waivers
  • Scheduling, delays and coordination

Joe has also co-authored and edited the book Construction Subcontracting: A Comprehensive Practical and Legal Guide, published by the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry. The book examines the legal relationships between the many parties in a typical construction project: general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, designers and others.
