The Commission has launched its strategy on commodities and raw materials. It has been concerned about price volatility in the commodity markets and has now decided it needs to secure supply of raw materials for European industry in the future by linking policy on commodities and raw materials with financial market regulatory reform. It has now published a Communication setting out the links between the commodity, raw materials and financial markets and setting priorities for the future of the “Raw Materials Initiative” alongside the EMIR proposal on OTC Derivatives Trading, the MiFID Review, the Energy Market Integrity Review and other financial market developments.
