The planning regime may become easier for investors wishing to develop energy sources on sites without a local zoning plan.
A proposed change currently being considered would allow applications for terms and conditions of interconnection to be supported by a ‘study of zoning conditions and directions’ as an alternative to the relevant extract from the local zoning plan (or, in the absence of either, the planning permit for the land to which the application relates).
The study should confirm the suitability of the project’s location within the area to which both the application and the planned investment relate. This change in energy law is currently being proposed and could be adopted within the next 2-4 months.
