In a press release issued late last week, Sunflower Electric Power Corp. responded to the state of Kansas' denial of Sunflower's application for a final construction permit for the proposed expansion to the Holcomb Station. Earl Watkins, the company's president and CEO, stated that the company "expects to pursue legal and legislative remedies" in response to the denial, and labeled Kansas Department of Health and Environment's (KDHE) secretary Bremby's decision denying the permit "arbitrary and capricious," in an apparent reference to the legal standard used to evaluate agency action in court. For additional information about KDHE's action, please see the October 19 blog entry.
