EESC has supported the Commission’s proposals for regulating credit rating agencies. It criticised the role CRAs had played in rating structured products that turned out to be toxic. It also encouraged regulators not to rely too heavily on ratings. But also it said CRAs must take responsibility for their ratings and not be allowed to include disclaimers that make the ratings worthless.
