On 16 April 2013, the Department of the Taoiseach published its legislation programme for the Summer Session 2013. One of the Bills to be considered during this session is the Pyrite Levy Bill (which proposes the introduction of levies on quarrying and certain non-life insurance products to fund a remediation scheme regarding pyrite affected properties). The proposals, when first announced, were met with stringent criticism from the Irish Insurance Federation, which described the imposition of such a levy on non-life insurance products as "unacceptable and unjust".
