On 15 May 2014, the ACCC issued a determination granting authorisation for the Australian CFD Forum Limited, CMC Markets Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, Global Markets UK Limited and IG Markets Limited, who sell contracts for a difference (CFDs, a form of derivative product) to make and give effect to a code of practice contained within the Australian CFD Forum's membership rules.

Broadly, the proposed standards have been developed by the Australian CFD Forum to raise the level of compliance with existing regulatory guidance and in some cases, to go above the regulatory benchmarks.

The proposed standards cover topics such as advertising and promotional material, the protection of client money and credit risk monitoring, minimum capital adequacy requirements and due diligence requirements for dealing with intermediaries.

The ACCC considers that the proposed standards are likely to result in reduced information costs and enhanced consumer protection for CFD investors.
