Basin Electric Power Cooperative has selected a site near Selby, South Dakota for its NextGen coal-fired power plant. The plant would generate between 600 and 800 MW of power and could cost upwards of $2 billion. The technology for the plant has not yet been determined, but Basin is working with General Electric on an IGCC technology for the potential plant. Despite the site selection, the plant is only in the early stages of development and it is not definite that it will proceed.
