Tsar & Tsai filed an opposition on behalf of Bridgestone Japan against the registration of a third party’s “BU Design” mark in medical device based on Bridgestone’s “BRIDGESTONE” and “B Device” trademarks. Both the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office and Intellectual Property Court confirmed that Bridgestone’s “BRIDGESTONE” trademark is a well-known mark and cancelled the registration of the disputed mark on the ground of its similarity to the well-known “BRIDGESTONE” trademark and likely confusion.  The aforesaid decisions were affirmed by the Administrative Supreme Court in February, 2013, which dismissed the appeal by the owner of the disputed mark, and the decisions are now finalized.
