The report of a research inquiry by the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum has recently been published.

It provides a route-map for how public sector organisations can improve the sustainability of their estate management. The report makes a total of 15 recommendations on how substantial savings can be made through reducing the amount of space actually occupied, and investing in environmental sustainability as an opportunity for achieving economic savings, through carbon reduction and energy efficiency measures. The report also promotes establishing effective joint property solutions, with local government working in partnership with other parts of the public sector and the voluntary sector.

The report of the inquiry includes case studies to illustrate how several county councils are seeking to achieve efficiency gains and service delivery improvement through increased collaboration with a range of public sector partners.
