Regtel the independent regulator of content and promotion of premium rate telecommunications services has published its 2007/2008 annual report.
The report reveals that Regtel received almost three times as many complaints by phone users about premium rate services compared to the previous report period. Regtel discovered almost 1000 breaches of its code of practice for fixed line services such as horoscopes, competitions and ringtones and over 400 breaches in promotional and advertising materials. Almost 98 per cent of the six thousand complaints received related to subscription services. ComReg the Communications Regulator is due to assume responsibility for the regulation of premium rate services in the near future.
