District Court Rules on Waiver of Privilege: Today, the US District Court for the Northern District of California ruled in United States v. Sanmina Corporation that a memoranda created by in-house counsel lost its attorney-client privilege and work product protection when it was disclosed to a law firm to obtain a valuation analysis for tax compliance purposes with the IRS.

Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Sentenced to Federal Prison for Tax Charges: Today, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in federal prison for tax evasion charges. Mr. Sorrentino admitted that in tax year 2011, he took certain actions to conceal some of his income to avoid paying the full amount of taxes he owed, including making cash deposits into bank accounts in amounts less than $10,000 each so that these deposits would not come to the attention of the IRS. Mr. Sorrentino is a television personality best known for starring on MTV’s “Jersey Shore” using the nickname “The Situation."
