Feb. 3, 2009 – FBI Investigating $9 Million Worldwide ATM Scam. In late December 2008, Atlanta-based RBS WorldPay, an issuer of prepaid debit cards, announced that a hacker had broken into a database containing information necessary to steal/clone prepaid payroll debit cards for over 1.5 million customers. The FBI recently announced that in early November 2008, people using the stolen information conducted a coordinated attack in which they obtained nearly $9 million from 130 ATMs in 49 different cities worldwide in a less than an hour.
