IMPACT – LOW

What is the change? Employers hiring foreign candidates for jobs that require a Labour Market Impact Assessment will be required to use the Job Match service as part of their job advertising on Job Bank.

What does the change mean? The Job Match feature compares candidates’ profiles against job postings and rates their compatibility on a scale of one to five.

  • Implementation time frame: Aug. 28.
  • Visas/permits affected: LMIA-required work permits.
  • Who is affected: Employers recruiting foreign workers under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
  • Business impact: Use of the Job Match feature will be an additional requirement under job advertising rules for LMIAs.
  • Background: Before applying for an LMIA, Canadian employers are required to conduct recruitment efforts to identify qualified Canadian workers, including advertising on the Job Bank. Beginning Aug. 28, employers will be required to use the Job Match feature. Canadian job seekers register their profiles on the system, which matches them with available jobs on a five-star rating system.

BAL Analysis: Employers should be aware of new Job Match requirements for future LMIAs for both high-wage and low-wage jobs.
