The UK Cards Association has published data on card spending to mark the ten year anniversary of Chip and PIN since 14 February 2006.  The data shows that in 2006, 55% of spending at retailers was made by card, this increased to 78.5% in December 2015. Almost four out of every five pounds of spending at British retailers is made through card payments.

There has also been a reduction in fraud on counterfeit cards, with annual counterfeit card fraud losses down to £81.9 million between 2004 and 2014.  Forecasts suggest that the amount spent on debit and credit cards could reach £901 billion in 2024.
