On January 26, the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) launched its first-ever risk management framework for artificial intelligence, AI RMF 1.0. The framework aims to help designers, developers, subscribers, and users to think more critically about the context and potential impacts of AI. The approach is flexible, structured, and measurable to maximize the benefits of innovation while reducing the likelihood and degree of harm.

The Framework is intended to be voluntary, rights-preserving, non-sector-specific, and use-case agnostic, providing flexibility to organizations of all sizes and in all sectors and throughout society to implement the approaches in the Framework.
