On September 28, 2012, the government submitted to the National Assembly a draft amendment to the Securities Transaction Tax Act to introduce a transaction tax on derivative products (with a proposed effective date of January 1, 2016). It is currently under review by the National Assembly. In regard to this proposal, there has been a rumor that the government has decided to introduce a capital gains tax instead of a transaction tax, but the Ministry of Strategy and Finance dismissed such rumor.
