As of May 31, 2015, there were 64 patent applications requesting for AEP since the TIPO added “Green Tech related inventions” as a condition qualified for Accelerated Examination Program (AEP) on January 1, 2014. 93.7% of applicants are Taiwanese, of which business entities account for 54.7%. Among the applicants, Pegatron Corp. (solar energy cell field), SunRising Eco-Friendly Tech. Co., Ltd. (energy-saving vehicle lights field) and Green Cellulosity Corp. (biofuel field) are the top 3. Applications by education institutions, including National United University and National Chin-Yi University of Technology, accounted for 15.6%. In terms of industries, the top 3 categories are solar energy cell, 19 (29.7%); energy-saving electromechanical devices, 10 (15.6%) and LED lighting, 9 (14.1%).
As the patent applications for green technology inventions requesting AEP, which were prioritized examined by TIPO, 30 applications were completed with decision issued and in those cases the first office action was received by the applicants in an average of 93 days after filing. The effect on enhancing patent portfolio of green technology in Taiwan is significant.
