The acquisition by Lufthansa (Germany) of British Midlands UK (BMI) was approved by the European Commission (Commission) on 14 May 2009. The Commission examined the impact of the deal on key routes and took into account the fact that Lufthansa is also in the process of acquiring Brussels Airlines NV/SA. The Commission found that the deal was unlikely to pose a threat to competition on overlapping routes between airports in the UK, Germany and Belgium.
