Further to this recent LawNow, in response to the recent horrific fire at Grenfell Tower in London the Scottish Government (SG) has established a Ministerial Working Group to review the fire safety regulation of Scottish buildings. SG wants to have a complete picture of large residential buildings with a floor higher than 18 metres that uses Aluminium Composite Material cladding where there are no on-site staff to cater for fire emergencies.

The property industry is being asked to contact their relevant local authority planning and building control department as soon as possible to ensure that any such instances are known of by the local authority and this information will be reported to the SG.

The SG will be reviewing the fire safety regulation of these buildings with local authorities with particular attention being given to the building materials used.
