On 13 August 2010, CEIOPS published a response which it received from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) following a consultation in July of this year on third country equivalence under Solvency II. The ABI response indicated that there should be a transitional period of considerable length for third countries to be able to demonstrate commitment towards the assessment criteria used to assess their equivalence. However, the ABI indicated that some of the criteria proposed by CEIOPS for the assessment are prejudicial, with the possible result that few non-EEA countries will be regarded as equivalent.
