From 6 May, most people considering bringing an employment tribunal claim must first contact Acas to see whether the dispute can be resolved through conciliation. This service has been available on a voluntary basis since 6 April and since 6 May 2014, has been mandatory in most cases. Acas has published information on how early conciliation has been received during its first month. Since the launch of the scheme on 6 April, around 1,000 potential claimants per week have contacted Acas about early conciliation. Acas has also been contacted by 100 employers. Following this initial contact, 98 per cent of those who contacted Acas decided to try out the service, with the first early conciliation case settling within 24 hours.
