The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by FC Barcelona in relation to the FIFA sanction imposed on the Spanish club, reported here in April 2014.
The ban was imposed on FC Barcelona after it was deemed to have breached rules on signing international players under 18 years of age.
As a result of this decision, the Spanish football club FC Barcelona was sanctioned with a transfer ban for two complete and consecutive transfer periods and a fine of 450,000 Swiss francs (approximately €374,000).
According to the statement released by CAS, the Panel in charge of the matter found in particular that FC Barcelona had actually breached the rules regarding the protection of minors and the registration of minors attending football academies (articles 19 and 19bis of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players).
Accordingly, the FIFA decision is confirmed in full and FC Barcelona will not be allowed to sign any players in 2015.
FC Barcelona has issued a statement on its official website, expressing its “total disagreement” with the CAS decision and considers the sanction to be “disproportionate”.It may consider to file an appeal in front of the Swiss courts when the full contents of the decision are delivered by CAS.
