FSA is asking firms that may be considering providing depositary services to an AIF under the AIFMD to answer a survey so that FSA can assess the number and nature of applications it might receive from firms wishing to carry on the new regulated activity of “acting as trustee or depositary of an AIF”. It asks firms to tell it:

  • whether the firm would apply for authorisation earlier than 22 July 2013 if FCA were able to accept applications;
  • whether the firm would consider applying after that date; and
  • what types of AIF firms considering applying would wish to provide services to.

FSA gave firms only three days to complete the survey, asking for responses by 21 March. (Source:FSA Publishes AIFMD Depositary Survey)
