On 14 June, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law SB 6, which provides new protections for businesses in the state from liability for injuries arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. As we reported in March, a number of other states have enacted similar liability shield laws.

At the same time, other states are enacting new laws and standards to provide greater protections for workers in connection with COVID-19. On 15 June, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law Senate Bill (SB) 483, which amends the Oregon Safe Employment Act to increase whistleblower protections for workplace safety complaints.

In addition, as we reported on 24 June and 18 June California and New York, respectively, have enacted stringent workplace standards for employers regarding COVID-19.
