The court hearing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s enforcement action against Jitesh Thakkar and his company, Edge Financial Technologies, Inc., for their purported role in developing the software used by Navinder Sarao to engage in spoofing trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, denied the defendants’ motion for summary judgment without prejudice as premature. However, the judge – the Hon. Andrea R. Wood – accelerated the ending date of the CFTC’s proposed discovery to February 28, 2020. Defendants’ case is being heard in a federal court in Chicago. Previously, the defendants requested that the court grant summary judgment on the grounds that the CFTC had obtained sufficient information and documents during an investigation of Mr. Thakkar co-conducted with the Department of Justice.
