The Ministry of Justice has announced that the delayed Bribery Act will come into force on 1 July 2011. Statutory guidance has now been published to assist employers in structuring their businesses to prevent persons associated with them from bribing. There are six guiding principles which are proportionate procedures, top-level commitment, risk assessment, due diligence, communication (including training) and monitoring and review. Businesses should assess the risk of bribery to their particular sector and put in proportionate procedures. The guidance also includes practical case studies.
