The Ministry of Justice has published the most recent set of statistics for employment tribunal claims. They cover claims presented between January and March 2014 and indicate that the introduction of fees is continuing to have a significant impact on the volume of claims. The statistics show a 58.4% decrease on claims from the same period the previous year, including a drop of 85% for unlawful deduction from wages claims (which will often be low value, meaning a fee is a particular deterrent to bringing a claim). These statistics may be used to call for the level of fees to be reviewed and will no doubt be used by Unison to support its judicial review appeal against the introduction of fees.
