The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has announced further information in relation to the way in which it will be dealing with exceptional consideration requests. The sponsor guidance dated 29 October 2010 confirms that all requests for certificates of sponsorship (CoS) for extension applications for work permit and tier 2 (general) holders who need to extend their leave with their current employer, will be granted. CoS requests for tier 1 holders or other categories are not included as extensions for these purposes. The remaining CoS will be divided between new hire for shortage occupations and new hires for non shortage occupations. The UKBA will proportion the split between these two categories based on the number of applications received. In addition individuals will be rated in relation to proposed salary with salaries of £40,000 or more given the greatest preference.
