A pre-filed Vermont Bill, S. 339, seeks energy independence by pushing for renewable energy sources. The pre-filed bill entitled, "An Act Relating to the Energy Independence and Rural Economic Development Act" was introduced by Vermont Senator Lyons and Senator Miller. The bill proposes a GHG emissions registry and a regional reporting system. It calls for the State Energy Office to be advised by a Clean Energy Coordinating Council. This Council will work with the Energy Office by advising them on such things as the budget, goals, design and evaluation of the clean energy program. They will also look at a carbon tax, alternative methods of carbon taxation and other possible funding methods to advance renewable energy and energy efficiency.
