The Communications Alliance reviewing and seeking public comment on the following documents:
- Operational Matrices for Reporting on Accessibility Features for Telephone Equipment (G627:2011) (the Guideline) – which specifies the handset/hardware information and specific accessibility features for mobility, vision and hearing that equipment suppliers are required to provide to carriage service providers; and
- Requirements for Customer Equipment for use with the Standard Telephone Service – Features for special needs of persons with disabilities (AS/ACIF S040) (the Standard) – which specifies the technical requirements for customer equipment used with a standard telephony service (STS) and designed to cater for some of the special needs of individuals with disabilities
In relation to the review of the Standard, the Communications Alliance has released a Background Paper, which sets out the review process and factors to be considered in the review. The factors to be considered include the objectives of the Standard (including the appropriateness of the Standard for meeting the objectives) and the scope of the Standard (including whether other features need to be standardised for all equipment used on an STS and whether other ‘non-STS’ equipment should be included).
Comments on the Guideline are due by 5 pm (AEST) 28 March 2014. Comments on the Standard are due by 5 pm (AEST) 11 April 2014.
