The CSRC recently issued the draft supplementary provisions on repurchase of shares by listed companies through centralised trading at competitive prices. Under the draft provisions, share repurchase through bidding at stock exchanges will no longer require approval from the CSRC and repurchase of A shares can take place after a report has been made to the CSRC and a public disclosure of the information. Once the supplementary provisions are implemented, the provisions in the 2005 trial measures on repurchase of shares through centralized trade at competitive prices will be repealed. The consultation period ended on 28 September 2008.
