Amazon has been known to be on the frontier of technology. It was one of the pioneers of the internet. It has experimented with using drones for package delivery. Now, it wants to 3D print the items you purchase, right outside your doorstep.

The Verge reported recently that Amazon has filed several patent applications for a truck that will be outfitted with 3D printers that could produce and deliver products on demand. Like the impetus behind the drone delivery, Amazon says this system will help speed up the time between ordering and receiving your order.

“Time delays between receiving an order and shipping the item to the customer may reduce customer satisfaction and affect revenues generated,” Amazon stated in the applications. Apparently two-day shipping with Amazon Prime (or even the 30-minute delivery contemplated by drones) just isn’t fast enough. For more on Amazon’s 3D printing experiment, please visit this article
