With the risk of a global influenza pandemic increasing as more cases of swine flu are reported, the HSE have restated their guidance for employers to follow in the event that the Chief Medical Officer declares a pandemic flu within the UK.

HSE’s general advice is to encourage each individual employee to adopt a common sense approach. If they are feeling unwell with flu-like symptoms and, particularly if they are coughing and sneezing, then they should stay at home. This will help to prevent the disease being passed on to colleagues (and also fellow passengers on their way to and from work, if they travel by public transport). In the workplace, good personal hygiene measures should be followed.

The guidance is available on the HSE’s website here.

Additional guidance on business continuity planning is also available.
