On 26 April 2012, the Competition Commission published its Business Plan 2012/13, explaining its aims and objectives for the financial year, and addressing the challenges it will face in meeting them. It sets out how the Competition Commission plans to manage its core inquiry work, taking into consideration budget pressures and government proposals for changes in the competition regime. The Competition Commission’s key objectives include making the right decisions in market investigations, merger inquiries and regulatory appeals; taking the right remedial action and implementing effective and proportionate remedies; ensuring no undue burden on business or taxpayers; ensuring positive engagement with its stakeholders and its external representation; influencing the development of international competition and implementing and learning from international best practice; and supporting itself by ensuring that sufficient and effective services and support mechanisms are in place.
