The Asian Development Bank announced August 14 that it will help China develop a detailed plan for a staged demonstration and deployment of carbon capture and storage systems to mitigate climate change. The project will launch at least two large-scale CCS demonstration projects by 2016 with the capacity to capture 2 MMT per year. The bank will also support an assessment of the potential role of oxy-fuel combustion CO2 capture, and will provide $2.2 million from the Carbon Capture and Storage Fund under the Clean Energy Financing Partnership Facility for the projects.
