Sponsors that obtained their sponsor licence immediately following the introduction of the Points Based System in November 2008 will now receive notifications from the UK Border Agency regarding the renewal process. The emails will be sent from firstname.lastname@example.org and will be addressed to the Level 1 user. Occasionally, these emails end up in spam folders and so this should be checked regularly.
A further notification will be sent to sponsors three months before the licence expiry date, when the renewal function will be activated on the Sponsor Management System. No documentation need be submitted with the application, but sponsors should be prepared to submit any documents that are subsequently requested by the Border Agency within seven days. The Border Agency may also undertake a compliance visit.
The sponsor summary details on the Sponsor Management System should be up to date before a renewal application is submitted, so sponsors will need to ensure that the Border Agency has been notified of any changes to the authorising officer or Level 1 user details before submitting the licence renewal application. The application fee will be £500 for small or charitable companies and £1,500 for medium and large companies.
It is strongly recommended that sponsors submit their renewal applications in good time before the expiry date. Provided that the application and payment is received before the expiry date, sponsors may continue to sponsor migrants while the application is being processed. If the deadline is missed, sponsors will no longer be able to sponsor migrants and the migrant's existing leave will be curtailed.
