Despite Republican successes elsewhere in the state, Democrats continue to be victorious in Cuyahoga County, as Representative Armond Budish (D-Beachwood) defeated Republican County Councilman Jack Schron to become the second County Executive.  Budish won the election with 59% of the vote to Schron’s 41%.  The Executive’s office was created in the recent reorganization of county government and places an elected Executive in charge of most county functions, including tax collection, social service delivery, property value assessment, the tracking of real estate transfers, death investigations and operation of the county jail.
