On Friday, the SEC announced that it will hold a roundtable on short sale rules on May 5, 2009. This roundtable will focus on the recent proposals released by the SEC for public comment. The participants in this roundtable will include representatives of self-regulatory organizations, trading venues, the financial services industry, investment firms, and the academic community. The preliminary agenda divides the roundtable into three panels, with a panel for the proposed market-wide rules, a second for the proposed security-specific circuit breaker rules, and a final panel focusing on empirical analysis.

The proposed rules were published in the Federal Register on April 20, and the SEC is currently accepting comments on the proposals.
